River Sirens
Introducing
The Great Dragon Adventure
Over dinner in April 2005, a dozen women who exercise together at a Barrington gym had a wild idea for a new challenge. We had participated in a 150-mile charity bicycle ride across New Jersey but wanted to add something more. So we decided to form a Dragon Boat team. Joined by ten other women, we set out to train for our first 500 meter race which would take place that October at the Philadelphia International Dragon Boat Festival in Fairmont Park.
From that first dinner meeting we have spawned a sister team, The River Sisters, a crew made entirely of breast cancer survivors. With the help of the Cooper Cancer Center we purchased our own boat and have been paddling on the Cooper River ever since. The River Sirens is a women's dragon boat team dedicated to the continuing growth of our members' minds, bodies and spirits.
By building camaraderie in a respectful and supportive environment,
we are able to increase our own physical fitness and spiritual well being.
We welcome women of all ages, abilities and fitness levels and strive to encourage a passion for the ancient art of dragon boating.
By participating in community services, we are a supportive influence for cancer survirors in the South Jersey area.
Please Note: Practices are for River Sirens, River Sisters and Guests only. If you would like team information, please contact us at info.riversirens_gmail.com
